A Simple "Tapping" Technique offers New Hope in our Battle with Weight Loss.
Cravings for chocolate and other foods, emotional eating patterns and our nations struggle with an obesity epidemic could all soon be a thing of the past thanks to a new "tapping” technique being used to help beat the bulge. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or ‘tapping’ is a remarkably simple, safe and effective technique that involves gently tapping on certain pressure points whilst tuning into an issue. Many emotional and physical issues can be resolved with EFT and it now appears that it provides a solution to weight control that does not involve unsustainable diets, deprivation or even will power, because it ‘cures’ the underlying issues that cause people to gain weight in the first place.
According to Pam Wright, an Emotional Freedom Specialist based in Geelong, she been using EFT to assist her clients with a variety of issues for the past ten years, but has been simply amazed by the results she has been receiving since specialising in the area of weight loss. "I offer specialised workshops in both Geelong and Gippsland which are based on this simple tapping technique and even I have been stunned by the success some of my clients have been achieving with their weight loss,” says Ms Wright. "One of my clients has lost a massive 20kgs in just two months since attending a workshop and having 2 private consultations, in addition to being able to come off her anti-depressant medication after 6 long years.” Whether you have an addiction to chocolate, coffee, soft drink, or simply have a habit of making unhealthy food choices, with EFT you can tap on those cravings to eliminate them completely.
Our battle with weight is usually a result of underlying emotional issues or belief systems which sabotage our ability to make healthier choices, which tapping can also eliminate, freeing us to make better choices in life. Most diet programs rarely, if ever deal, with any of these underlying issues, which is why most people lose weight only to put it all back on again plus some extra. That is why the people who use EFT have far greater success winning the war on weight control. What’s even better, once you learn the tapping technique for yourself it is a tool you can continue to use any time you need it. Unfortunately we have become a nation that resolves our negative emotions with suppressants and addictions, so just imagine the health and financial rewards from being able to find a positive way to release these issues.
Ms Wright likes to refer to EFT as a ‘first aid kit at your fingertips’ and is passionate about teaching and encouraging people to ‘tap on everything’. "You will be truly amazed how easy and how effective this technique is and I know from both my personal and client’s experience that it can be truly life-changing.” Articles
Waving goodbye to the hectic pace of everyday life and getting away - even just for a week - is something most people look forward to. However, getting to the holiday destination is often dreaded as it’s so mentally and physically draining – the fear of flying or stress of driving, the waiting, physical tiredness and the throbbing headache which adds to the hassles. But what if there was a stress management tool you could take with you to instantly alleviate these unwanted issues? It’s possible – and the solution is literally at your fingertips. It’s called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). EFT is a safe, drug-free and non-invasive method of releasing negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, grief and guilt, while it can also install positive emotions such as confidence and help improve relationships. It can also relieve physical problems such as headaches, back pain and allergies. But the best thing about EFT is its simplicity, its universality and the fact it can be self-administered anytime, anywhere. EFT works by stimulating particular meridian points on the face and upper body by gently tapping on them with the fingertips, at the same time tuning into the emotion or physical symptom which is bothering you. This clears away any blockages in the meridian system and brings it back into balance. "It uses the same energy meridian system as acupuncture, so it’s really a combination between Western psychology and Eastern ways of treating things,” says EFT practitioner of seven years and The Power of Tapping author Margaret Munoz. "But they are different in that obviously acupuncture uses needles and in EFT you use your fingers, but it also differs in that with EFT you are ... bringing the mind and emotions to bear,” she says. Other than its simplicity, one of the benefits of using EFT is that the same basic procedure can be used to clear away different types of physical and emotional problems. "One of things is that people find really hard to get their head around is that it’s universal,” Margaret says. "It can be used for whatever health issues you have and it can be used both directly on physical symptoms ... and also on negative emotions or issues that can create that physical pain.” The tapping itself is a stress management tool, as it brings about an inner calmness. But when issues are brought into focus in conjunction with the tapping, it can help release specific phobias and anxieties such as fear of public speaking, rejection, heights and flying. It can also help release past traumas, aid in weight loss, addictions, insomnia and grief. However, Margaret says the main issue people seek help from EFT for is lack of self-esteem and confidence. EFT is also as a peak performance tool – for students when studying, for athletes and business people. "In sports ... it can be used to expand the comfort zone and to enhance precision such as putting (golf) or for a basketball player to help them get the ball in the net,” Margaret says. Margaret says the most enjoyable part of helping people using EFT is the fast and effective way it releases people from their problems. "I’ve helped women who’ve had (foetal) terminations and ... I’ve helped a lot of people come to peace. What they’re looking for is inner peace and that, to me, is the end result of using EFT,” she says. "I haven’t come across anything that works like this and works so fast and creates the physical shift, emotional shift, mind shift and behavioural shift.” Gippsland-based EFT advanced practitioner of eight years Pam Wright uses EFT predominantly to free people from fears and phobias – and says she has a 90 per cent success rate. "I had one lady who was claustrophobic and could not be in a room without the door being open for 60 years. She had one session (of EFT) and her phobia was completely gone,” she says. While some cases only need one session to be resolved, the average is about three sessions – of about an hour each. However, it depends on how deep the issue is, how willing the person is to try EFT and whether there are any underlying issues. "If a person says they’re angry at the world it takes a little bit longer to find out what’s at the core of that anger,” she says. Also, self-esteem issues - often created over a number of years - take persistence. As the problem is released, Pam says people react in different ways. "Some people have really large cognitive shifts, while some people do feel physical pain in their body as it’s going. This is because EFT is similar to a massage in that it releases toxins into system. Other people get really tired, but most people feel it (relief) instantly. I have had a few people who haven’t got the results for maybe a week.” Pam says if every aspect of an incident and all the underlying causes have been cleared, the issue rarely resurfaces. "If you haven’t got all the aspects it can retrigger, but not to the degree of the problem in first place,” she says. Once you have had an EFT session and learn the basics, it can be self-administered. However, Pam advises that deep traumas need the presence of a qualified EFT practitioner. "That’s the empowering thing with EFT – people can use it themselves at home on their own emotions,” Pam says.

Keep reading and discover what you need to set yourself free and regain control of your life. People are a mass of emotions, which are running riot most of the time, resulting in a loss of control and sense of stability. We have emotions bottled up inside us, controlling our thoughts and our actions, influencing our mental and physical health. The majority of us don’t express these emotions in a positive way. For most of us, they are shoved down, ignored, covered up; suppressed. For most of us they feel too painful to deal with, but deal with them we must, or face the consequences. Consequences of depression, anxiety, stress, fears/phobias, road rage, violent outbursts, alcohol and drug addictions, food and sexual addictions, physical ailments and so the list goes on. These are all the outward expression of suppressed emotions, feelings that go unacknowledged and ignored. Imagine if you can, a world where in our younger years we spent even 1% of our time learning how to deal with our emotions. How to express them, how to show them and how to deal with them in a healthy way, rather than suppressing them? What a healthier and happier society we would have! Instead, most of us learnt from the role models in our lives: parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and other significant people, who in turn learnt from their role models. This equates to generations of people who are adept at suppressing their emotions and are suffering the consequences of this suppression, emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. For too long the focus has been on the symptoms of our suppressed emotions; depression, dis-ease, sickness, pain, struggling and suffering, and for most of us we don’t even associate all these things with our emotions. This is no one’s fault, very few people are taught about their emotions or even acknowledge them, so how can we pass on to the next generation what we are unaware of. Most people do the best with what they know at the time, the trouble is so many don’t know there is another way and therefore live lives of quiet desperation. But perhaps there is a better way! "If you keep doing what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got” maybe it is time to try something different. Maybe it’s time you took charge of your health and wellbeing instead of handing your power over to those that you have been led to believe are more knowledgeable, whether that is doctors, psychotherapists, psychologists, or counsellors. You go to these people and you want them to fix you, because we have been taught in this society not to take responsibility for ourselves, but instead to abdicate that responsibility to other ‘more qualified’ people. But have you ever thought that perhaps these so called experts know very little about who you are or where you come for? Years ago people were empowered to look after their own health. They knew which herbs and natural medicines to use for various ailments. "Old wives” tales still circulate today, a remnant of medical cures from a bygone era. The powers that exist in today’s society have led us to believe that we unable to take care of our own health. These same sectors of our consumer driven society have a vested interest in making us believe that we need their chemicals and expertise and need to abdicate responsibility for our own health. Now I am not in any way suggesting that these people are not needed, as they play a very important part in your health, but you play an even more significant role. You are not just bystanders. Yet time and time again I see that the patient/clients just hand themselves over and don’t take part in the healing process that needs to happen. It’s time we all participated in our own mental, physical and emotional wellbeing and subsequent healing. The first thing we need to do is explore our emotions. All too often when something happens that upsets or angers us we are more concerned with what people will think or say and run from the emotion. Or we simply find it too painful to feel the emotion so we try to push it away. We need to acknowledge that we have emotions and that all emotions are there for a reason. We need to go into the emotion and explore what we are feeling, learn to just feel it and find out more about what it is trying to tell us and then we are able to release it. Learning about our emotions and why we react in certain ways is the key to learning how to express them appropriately and the key to inner peace. Often if the emotion is excessive and we have over-reacted to some stimulus then it means is that there is already a deeper underlying emotion that has not been expressed and needs to be dealt with. For many people, there are unexpressed emotions from past hurts, traumas, childhood events, difficult relationships etc. that are still simmering away inside, that we are often unaware of and even believe don’t exist. De-Nial isn’t just a river in Egypt. This internal conflict is what creates dis-ease and pain in the body. We need to learn how to listen to our body, our heart and our emotions as they are there for a reason. Once we become aware of these unresolved emotions we can set about eliminating them and the huge impact they have on our mental, emotional and physical health, our relationships with others and our peace of mind. In fact, all areas of our lives and how we participate in life. In the past these suppressed emotions would have taken years of therapy; talking about how it made us feel and what we can do about it, before being able to move on in life. But nowadays with all the different therapies available to us, the process can be much faster, easier and far more effective. One of the most amazingly simple and powerful new therapies also puts the control back in your own hands, where you can be an active participant in your own healing and health. You can even learn the technique for this revolutionary therapy yourself so you can help your family and loved ones. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is possibly the fastest growing energy modality in the world today. The discovery statement behind EFT is that all negative emotions come from a disruption in the bodies’ energy system. EFT works by tapping on particular energy points called meridians. The meridians that we tap on are the same as the ones used in the ancient practice of acupuncture except instead of putting needles in, we stimulate the meridian by tapping. By tuning into the emotion while tapping on these meridians we can realign the bodies’ energy system, thus release the emotion. EFT can be used to eliminate unresolved emotions such as anger, resentment, stress, depression, sadness, loss, grief, trauma, abuse, and so on. As you are now aware, these unresolved emotions can cause physical discomfort or dis-ease in the body. In addition we can also address the physical pain or dis-ease with EFT and we are able to gain relief even if unaware of the emotion behind it. EFT is truly a remarkable modality that you can use to achieve emotional, mental and physical health and truly regain control of your life. |
